SPOTLIGHT ON A TERRIFIC KID WHO IS PART OF OUR THURSDAY’S CHILD FAMILY

MEET NOAH AND HIS SISTER SOPHIE

Click here to read about the school and village where the donations from
Noah and Sophie went, along with additional donations from Thursday's Child.

Meet Noah Morris, who turned 8 years old early in 2007.  Noah and his parents adopted Sophie Estefany from Guatemala with the help of Thursday’s Child.  Sophie will turn 4 in May of 2007. Sophie and Noah are a pretty great team. They are very close. Noah protects and teaches Sophie many things, such as new words and important information.  They love to sit and watch television together and Sophie tells Mom, Shoshanna and Dad, Peter, when Noah is watching something he isn’t supposed to be watching!

Sophie loves to watch her brother play with his play station.  She follows him through the house and emulates much of what he does and says.  Their expressions are similar and despite the differences in hair and eye color, this makes them look alike.  Sophie likes to try different foods, loves to draw and make things with playdough.  She wants to take ballet this summer.   She loves to cheer her brother at his soccer and baseball games and she watches him in karate class.  He is studying for his purple belt.  Noah watches Sophie's gymnastics classes.  Sophie believes that everything beautiful comes from Guatemala.  Noah tells her that everything beautiful does come from Guatemala!

Noah and Sophie were meant to be siblings.  It was Noah's idea to ask for donations to Thursday’s Child  for the agency to use helping in Guatemala, instead of presents for his eighth birthday.  He wanted to make sure that money didn't keep children in Guatemala from the families they were supposed to be with.

The staff and board of Thursday’s Child want to wish Noah a wonderful year, filled with fun and happy events, and we applaud his generosity.   We know his parents are very proud of him and so are we.  He helped us raise quite a bit of money. Thank you, Noah, and thank you to Noah’s generous and kind friends and relatives.

Meet Sophie, recently turned four, sister of Noah, whom we told you about when he sacrificed his gifts for his eighth birthday and suggested that friends and family donate to Thursday's Child to help people in Guatemala.  Now, Sophie, his sister, has done the same for her birthday. Sophie has helped us raise some more money for our projects in Guatemala, with the help of her family and friends. What a generous and special four year old and what special parents to teach their kids to be so compassionate.

When asked what she likes, Sophie says, "I like pink and gold.  I like to play with Sophia and Aiden.  I like to crawl through the caterpillar in the gym and to climb on things and to swing on things.  I like to eat some cereal and something to drink, milk and water and juice.  That's all"

Sophie starts ballet next week and is in camp now at a local neighborhood center, where she does, indeed, play each day with Sophia and Aiden, her best friend and her "boyfriend".  Her mom says she has  "monkey genes", and climbs on everything and anything, coming away with multiple splinters that she reluctantly allows Mommy to take out without grace. Mom also says that   Sophie is aware of her beauty but does not use it yet, and loves to dress equally in Grateful Dead T shirts and flowery dresses.  Sophie loves to help  in the kitchen, and loves to play on the computer.  She also loves babies and singing and drawing on paper and on walls.  She adores her brother Noah and gives him a run for his money in the intelligence department.
Sophie knows that all things beautiful come from Guatemala and she has good friends, Chiara and Joseph, who were born there too.  Sophie is learning Hebrew and Spanish.  She is well traveled, having been to Israel twice.  She is proud to be Sophie Estefany C., an extremely loving four year old who could not be more loved.

Thank you Sophie! Happy Belated Fourth Birthday from your friends at Thursday's Child.
