Birthparents who want to speak with us are always responded to quickly and given top priority and very personal attention.
PENNY DRIVE! Dear Client, Friend or Supporter, If you think you can help with the penny drive called PENNIES FOR PARENTS AND KIDS, please complete registration form by clicking here, or ask for us to mail you some if you can't print one out. We need people to collect as many pennies (or other change if people offer) as they can AND to ask local businesses if they will allow you to put out a jar that you label THURSDAY'S CHILD ADOPTION AGENCY, OR to ask others you know to complete a registration form and to collect pennies for us. We need people to register with us before they begin collecting. This is a good project for getting kids involved in. A few people have already raided their own change jars and have sent us checks. Every amount you give helps! ALSO . . . .ATTENTION SHAW'S SHOPPERS! If you are a Shaw's shopper, please let us know and save your receipts. We are registered with them now and they will donate 1 % of total to us. Find out if your local Shaw's will let you put a box in the store, labeled receipts for Thursday's Child adoption agency. Tell them we are registered with their corporate headquarters as a participating non-profit charity. You would periodically check the box to ensure it is not full, would remove the receipts and would mail them to us. |
Thank you for visiting our site in order to learn how to be part of our Thursday’s Child International Adoption Family. We hope you will take the time to read our information and will see how we are special and unique. We do hope our material is useful to you. We are sure that you will appreciate our differences and will want to contact us soon. We know that adopting a child, or thinking about placing your child for adoption is an enormous decision and we are here to help. Don’t forget to click on photos of some of the wonderful children we have placed and to read their families’ stories.
At Thursday’s Child, we believe that building a family through adoption is no less exciting and miraculous than creating a family by birth. We do not claim to perform miracles, but ask you to consider allowing us the privilege of being one of the important instruments in your pursuit of your own special miracle.
In April of 2008, the United States will finally implement The Hague Convention on Rights and Protection of Children. This has been a process in the works for about 15 yrs and there are many proponents and opponents of “The Hague” throughout the adoption community. After careful consideration on our part, Thursday’s Child has decided not to seek Hague accreditation to work directly with Hague countries. Our basic disagreement with some of the premises of The Hague and our small size and personalized approach would make it difficult for us to do so, and to continue to provide the same kind of exceptional services we have been known for since our inception, and to which we have been thoroughly committed as an organization.
How will this change our services? Hague accreditation only affects working directly in other Hague countries. It does not preclude an agency from forming cooperative relationships to do so, and does not in any way affect local licensure status or good standing. We will continue to offer adoption programs in non-Hague member countries, such as Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Taiwan and any new programs and areas of need that are developed. We also have some excellent sister or networking relationships to offer our clients options for adoptions from Hague countries and from others where we do not have programs. We will help you connect with them and to fulfill all requirements in Connecticut, as well as acting as your advocates throughout the process. We can still help you adopt from China if this is what you desire, though clients must be aware that the wait can now be quite long.
We will continue to work with local birthmothers when they ask for our help, and to cooperate with a variety of excellent out of state agencies to assist you in adopting a child from the United States. We will provide our always comprehensive homestudy and post placement and post adoption services. We are able to assist Connecticut applicants in locating a reputable cooperating agency in order to adopt a child internationally from a country in which we do not work. If you have an international agency in mind already, we can provide homestudy and follow up services, and adoption preparation and education for the lifelong experience of being an adoptive family. We believe we offer the most experienced staff working in adoptions in the State of Connecticut. This puts us at a real advantage in our ability to advise and counsel parents on appropriate avenues for family building.
We provide compassionate, caring and comprehensive adoption services to prospective parents from Connecticut and other states.
We work hard to ensure that prospective parents are carefully guided through the complex adoption process and treated as individuals.
We are very proud of the fact that most our staff, board and consultants are adoptive parents AND professionals. Clients have frequently commented on our vast amount of knowledge about adoption. We are often consulted by other organizations on unusual adoption or immigration problems. Our director has over 36 years of experience in this field and many of our staff members have 10-20 plus years of experience. Our expertise will lead you competently and lovingly through each step of your adoption, including advice about immigration procedures and help with foreign dossiers. We know that adoption is a lifelong process and we are here to help prepare you for that, with information, support and sometimes humor.
We provide our birthparents, the same warm, thorough and individualized services that we do our prospective adopters.
We do everything possible to hook you up with other adoptive families and to give you helpful information. If you are here in Connecticut, you will meet some of our families as part of your education and preparation for adoption.
We can supply references and mail or e-mail buddy families.
Excellent direct resources and networking opportunities for many countries. Watch for information on our new program offerings and updates on existing programs.
