WHO AND WHAT ARE WE?

We are a Connecticut State licensed, full-service adoption agency, with a difference! We are also a placement resource for international adoptions.

We are a Family-Style agency, creating the 21st Century Family in a caring, old- fashioned way!

While we feel we have a very lofty and important purpose, we also love what we do.

We are a non-profit, 501 (C)(3) organization, founded and first licensed in 1981. We provide all adoption-related services for applicants from Connecticut and serve as a placement resource to out of staters through some of our international programs that offer final decree adoptions. In this capacity we work with the foreign agency or attorney and assist the foreign source in providing the right child for clients, both in and out of state. We do not actually have custody of the child at any time.

We specialize in international adoptions, but we also help with domestic adoptions. We provide modest assistance to our international cooperating programs and post-adoption counseling and referrals when needed and requested.

Thursday’s Child places a limited number of healthy, local infants. We do not maintain a waiting list and do not accept applications from prospective parents seeking only U.S. healthy white babies. Our reason is that we cannot predict how many babies we may have locally in a given period. We feel it is unfair to work with families who will have very long waits. We prefer to work with people for whom we can have the expectation of making a placement quickly, or within a reasonable period of time. We do not like misleading our families or giving false hope, since our local infant program is small and we specialize in other kinds of adoptions. If we do assume custody of healthy infants, waiting parents for any of our international programs are eligible to be chosen for those babies in our care and custody.

We are proud of our local birthparent counseling and domestic placements, (non-identified) though this is a small part of our total program. In working with birthparents, we provide compassionate services to meet the needs of the birth family at a very difficult time and most important, to ensure a good future for the child who is to be placed.

We also work with our adoptive parents to help them learn about the cultures of their child’s origin. We are here to assist them with issues that may arise at different stages of parenting.

Every part of the services we provide is performed in our personalized, friendly and thorough manner, taking into account the need, capabilities and dreams of each applicant.
